  • Retreating to bench Sunday
Freeman is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Royals.

Advice: Though he's on the bench for Sunday's series finale, Freeman appears to have moved back into a quasi-everyday role with Will Brennan (ribs) recently landing on the injured list. Freeman, who has slashed .169/.272/.268 thus far in June, had started in each of the Guardians' last five games. Rotowire.com Today, 10:57 am

  • Back to bench Sunday
Arias is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Royals.

Advice: Arias started in five of the past six games while seeing action at three different positions, but he'll head to the bench in Sunday's series finale. The Guardians should continue to open up regular playing time for Arias against left-handed pitching, but his starting opportunities against right-handed pitching may be more sporadic while the Guardians have all of their regular hitters available with the exception of outfielder Will Brennan (ribs), who was recently placed on the injured list. • Scratched with foot soreness
Vierling was scratched from the lineup for Sunday's game against the Angels due to left foot soreness.

Advice: Vierling suffered the injury during Saturday's 6-5 extra-inning loss to the Angels, when he fouled a pitch off his foot in the top of the 10th. Preliminary X-rays came back clean, but the 27-year-old wasn't moving well in pregame workouts Sunday, per Chris McCosky of The Detroit News. Vierling should be considered day-to-day and will have Monday's team off day to aid in his recovery ahead of Tuesday's series opener in Minnesota. Rotowire.com Today, 10:54 am
  • Riding pine Sunday
Fry is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Royals.

Advice: Jose Ramirez will get a day out of the infield and serve as the Guardians' designated hitter, so Fry will hit the bench to accommodate him. Fry had started in each of the last three games, going 4-for-10 with two doubles and two walks to bring his OPS up to .950 on the season. Rotowire.com Today, 10:53 am

  • Idle against lefty
Benintendi is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rockies.

Advice: Corey Julks will draw the start in left field while the lefty-hitting Benintendi retreats to the bench as the Rockies bring southpaw Kyle Freeland to the hill. Since returning June 12 following a brief stint on the 10-day injured list due to an Achilles injury, Benintendi has gone 8-for-39 (.205 average) with two home runs, four RBI and four runs in 13 games. • Late scratch Sunday
Davis was scratched from Sunday's lineup against the Blue Jays.

Advice: The 31-year-old is likely perfectly healthy, but Juan Soto's (hand) late addition to the starting nine will bump Davis from the lineup. He's gone 1-for-9 with a double, two walks, an RBI and a run in three games since being acquired by the Yankees last weekend. Rotowire.com Today, 10:49 am
  • Getting Sunday off
Lopez is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rockies.

Advice: With southpaw Kyle Freeland on the hill for Colorado, the lefty-hitting Lopez will move to the bench. Danny Mendick will replace Lopez at second base. Rotowire.com Today, 10:48 am
  • Receiving rest Sunday
Lee is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rockies.

Advice: Lee will get the afternoon off after he started at catcher in both of the first two contests of the series. Martin Maldonado will spell Lee behind the dish in the series finale. Rotowire.com Today, 10:46 am
  • Surprise addition to lineup
Soto (hand) is starting in right field and batting second Sunday against the Blue Jays.

Advice: The 25-year-old was originally slated to sit Sunday and said he may undergo an MRI or CT scan Monday when the Yankees are back in New York, so his late addition to the lineup is a major surprise. It's unclear if Soto will still require any of the medical imaging, but he's apparently feeling well enough to play despite experiencing some pain and weakness in his bruised right hand Saturday.
