  • Joins 40-man roster
The Dodgers added Gage to their 40-man roster Wednesday, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports.

Advice: Gage exercised an opt-out clause in his minor-league contract Wednesday, but he'll instead remain with the organization now that he owns a spot on the 40-man. The 31-year-old southpaw will remain in Triple-A, however, where he's posted a 2.79 ERA and 1.31 WHIP in 19.1 innings this season. J.P. Feyereisen was outrighted to Oklahoma City in a corresponding move. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 6:08 pm
  • Cole Irvin removed from Orioles’ starting rotation
Orioles’ manager Brandon Hyde told reporters on Wednesday that Cole Irvin will work out of the team’s bullpen going forward.

Advice: Someone needed to get the boot with Dean Kremer returning on Wednesday, and with Cade Povich and Albert Suarez pitching well and Irvin struggling recently, the writing had been on the wall. The 30-year-old hurler will settle into a long-relief role until another injury strikes the O’s rotation or they require an extra starter. Rotoworld Yesterday, 5:56 pm
  • Rays recall Justin Sterner from Triple-A Durham
Rays recalled RHP Justin Sterner from Triple-A Durham.

Advice: The 27-year-old right-hander has pitched well in two appearances with the Rays this season, posting a 2.25 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and a 4/1 K/BB ratio over his four innings of work. He’ll give manager Kevin Cash another option to deploy in the middle innings. Rotoworld Yesterday, 3:42 pm
  • Shut down from throwing
Almonte will be shut down from throwing after receiving a second opinion on his right shoulder strain Wednesday, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports.

Advice: Manager Craig Counsell noted Wednesday that Almonte "didn't get great news" during his second opinion, and the right-hander will decide whether to resume rehab through a strengthening program or undergo surgery for his strained right shoulder, Patrick Mooney of The Athletic reports. Before landing on the injured list in May, Almonte registered six holds and one save over 17 outings with a 3.45 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 20:8 K:BB across 15.2 innings. He was transferred to the 60-day injured list June 27, and the 30-year-old could be on the shelf for the rest of the season if he opts for surgery. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 3:03 pm
  • Likely returning in relief
Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said Wednesday that Bradford (rib/back) has resumed throwing off a mound, and the left-hander is likely to fill a relief role once back from the injured list, Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports.

Advice: The 26-year-old was dominant in three starts for Texas with a 1.40 ERA, 0.62 WHIP and 17:2 K:BB before he suffered a lower-back strain and a stress fracture in his rib, but he's not expected to rejoin the rotation once healthy. Max Scherzer is finally healthy after missing nearly the first three months of 2024, and Tyler Mahle (elbow) is also moving toward his season debut. Bradford's buildup and rehab assignment should be shorter since he's coming back as a reliever, but the Rangers are likely still looking for him to cover multiple innings and be an option for spot starts. • Sent back to Reno
The Diamondbacks optioned Hollowell to Triple-A Reno on Wednesday.

Advice: Hollowell joined the big-league club Tuesday, but he'll now return to the minors without appearing in a game for the D-backs. Cristian Mena will take Hollowell's place on the active roster and start Wednesday's game versus the Athletics. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 2:44 pm
  • Lands on injured list
The Brewers placed Paredes on the 15-day injured list Wednesday with right forearm tendinitis.

Advice: Paredes has been effective in middle relief for the Brewers this season, posting a 1.08 ERA in 16.2 innings. However, he allowed a hit and two walks in just one-third of an inning during his latest outing Tuesday and appears to have come away from the appearance with an injury. As a result, he'll now be forced to sit out at least through the All-Star break. Janson Junk will come up from Triple-A Nashville to fill the opening in Milwaukee's bullpen. • Shifts to 60-day IL
The Twins transferred Stewart (shoulder) to the 60-day injured list Wednesday.

Advice: The right-hander has been on the shelf with shoulder tendinitis since early May, so the move to the 60-day IL won't affect his return timeline. Stewart has progressed to facing live batters this week and could soon begin a rehab assignment. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 1:53 pm
  • Rockies recall Peter Lambert from Triple-A
Rockies recalled RHP Peter Lambert from Triple-A Albuquerque.

Advice: He’ll take the place of Riley Pint in the Rockies’ bullpen after Pint was optioned to Triple-A on Wednesday. Lambert has struggled in his chances with the big-league club this season, registering a troublesome 6.47 ERA, 1.69 WHIP and a 26/18 K/BB ratio over 32 innings in 15 appearances (three starts). He’ll continue to give them length in a depleted Rockies’ bullpen. Rotoworld Yesterday, 1:30 pm
