  • Ends power drought
Maldonado went 2-for-5 with a home run, two runs scored the three RBI in Wednesday's 8-2 win over the Guardians.

Advice: The veteran backstop belted a two-run shot off Tim Herrin in the eighth inning, giving Maldonado his second homer of the year and first since Apr. 26. The 37-year-old has had a miserable season at the plate even by his own poor standards, slashing .096/.144/.160 through 135 plate appearances with a career-worst 34.8 percent strikeout rate, but the White Sox seem content with his defensive contributions when he's in the lineup. • Pops grand slam Wednesday
Kelly went 1-for-4 with a grand slam in Wednesday's 9-2 win over the Twins.

Advice: Kelly was one of four Detroit players to go deep, and his third-inning shot was the biggest blow of the game. It was the catcher's sixth home run of the season and he's now up to 25 RBI. Kelly continues to split time behind the plate with Jake Rogers, though the former has been more effective offensively, which could lead to an increased role in the months ahead. • Goes deep in win
Marchan went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and a double in Wednesday's 5-3 win over the Cubs.

Advice: Marchan's homer was his second in his last four games, and this was his second multi-hit effort of the season. The catcher is batting .250 with three homers, five RBI, six runs scored, two doubles and no stolen bases over 39 plate appearances. Marchan and Garrett Stubbs continue to split the catching duties while J.T. Realmuto recovers from a right knee surgery. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 9:32 pm
  • Receiving breather
Bailey is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against Atlanta.

Advice: Bailey will get the day off Wednesday after catching four straight games. Curt Casali will fill in behind the dish and bat eighth. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 1:41 pm
  • Nationals bring back Riley Adams from Triple-A
Nationals recalled C Riley Adams from Triple-A Rochester.

Advice: The 28-year-old backstop has already appeared in 25 games for the Nationals this season, slashing .215/.281/.354 with a pair of homers and six RBI in 89 plate appearances. It’s not much, but it’s more production than they were getting from Drew Millas, which is why the team most likely made the switch again. He’ll function as the primary backup behind Keibert Ruiz for the time being. Rotoworld Wednesday, 1:38 pm
  • Nationals option Drew Millas to Triple-A Rochester
Nationals optioned C Drew Millas to Triple-A Rochester.

Advice: Once again, he and Riley Adams will swap places as the primary backup behind Keibert Ruiz. Milas, 26, has really struggled at the dish in his time with the Nationals, slashing a woeful .167/.219/.300 with one homer, one RBI and an 8/2 K/BB ratio over 32 plate appearances. • D-backs designate Tucker Barnhart for assignment
Diamondbacks designated C Tucker Barnhart for assignment.

Advice: Arizona is going to roll with Jose Herrera as their primary backup to starter Gabriel Moreno moving forward. Barnhart is a fine short-term stopgap, but he offers next to nothing at the plate at this stage of his career. The 33-year-old veteran should be able to latch on somewhere else as emergency catching depth. Rotoworld Tuesday, 3:32 pm
  • Hitting live BP
Rodriguez (elbow) has taken live BP from the left side, Andrew Destin of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Advice: Rodriguez underwent elbow surgery in December and is slated to miss the entirety of the 2024 season. He slashed .220/.284/.328 as a rookie last season. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 2:03 pm
  • Hunter Goodman sits for Rockies on Monday
Hunter Goodman is back on the bench Monday after making his first start in four games Sunday.

Advice: It’s like the Rockies stopped viewing Goodman as an option at first base and in right field after Elias Díaz got hurt last month and still haven’t changed that mindset, even though Díaz is back now. Goodman last started at a position other than catcher on June 10. Obviously, Jake Cave is just too good to sit. Rotoworld Monday, 2:38 pm
